What does it mean if a shirt has a French Cuff?

I’m looking at shirts online and some of them have a French Cuff. What does this mean exactly? Does it mean you have to use cuff links?

I think it generally does, the big cuffs…I like them…=0)

Editors Comment:  The French cuff shirts are shirts with the long cuffs that fold back.  They are often secured using cuff links.

This is generally a cuff which folds back and is kept in place by studs or cuff-links. It is made from one piece of material folding back on itself. You will rarely ever see buttons used on the cuffs of these types of shirts.

Yes, they are extra long and fastened by using cuff links. They also have "stays" in the collars. Quite classy looking.
